Is Al Gore Getting Re-Gored by the Media?

Matt Yglesias writes about something I noticed in a New York Times article on Al Gore:
"[A]long comes Mark Leibovich in The New York Times with a piece on Gore arguing that if he runs, he'll be "deeply stigmatized" in the eyes of many Democrats because of his loss in 2000. The curious thing is that he can't seem to find anyone who actually feels that way."
The title of Leibovich's piece is also pretty demeaning: Plea of the Democratic Pariah: Forgive My Defeat ... and this sentence seems far too sweeping:
"There remains a broad sector of Democrats who will reflexively roll their eyes at the notion of Mr. Gore in general, let alone the idea of a political comeback."
On the Chris Matthews show, the panel (which included Joe Klein, Kathleen Parker, and David Gregory) made sure to discuss all the usual anti-Gore memes, i.e. wooden, crazy, shiftng personas, etc.

If Gore runs in '08, the Daily Howler's Bob Somerby has his work cut out for him...

Somerby's already starting his work; he's been talking for several days now about how the media's favorite scripts on Gore prevent his running in 2008, and how other scripts are set to hand the White House to McCain.
